Klasické termostaty na kotol sú kompatibilné aj s bojlermi, tepelnými čerpadlami a inými podobnými zariadeniami. Na výber máte termostaty pasívne a aktívne . Tie pasívne, zjednodušene povedané, len prepnú kontakt, tie aktívne zas priamo do kotla „vyšlú“ 230 V signál. Termostaty na kotol a ďalšie podobné vykurovacie telesá sú tradične napájané priamo z 230 V okruhu alebo prostredníctvom batérií.
